Jason and a friend will speak on modern Native American living and practices. Jason is the son of John Pragle and Gloria Hampson and lives on the Genesee County Seneca Indian Reservation. He is a government employee working on safety of local gorges.

Founded in 1876, the Genesee Valley Hunt is a fascinating local institution.  Its history is populated with interesting characters and reflects both the continuity and change that has taken place in Livingston County over the last 140 years.  Linda will also speak to a GVH-Springwater connection. 

If you are interested in seeing the Hunt in action, watch the parade of hounds on Main Street Geneseo on Saturday September 23 at 7:30 am.

Come to this presentation by Amie Alden, Livingston County Historian, to learn about the brutal history of the Sullivan Campaign during the American Revolution - it all happened right here in Livingston County. General Sullivan's Expedition led the way to the western-most point during the American Revolution, and what happened in 1779 would have huge impacts for the region and the nation.

A tour of 6 mid19th century homes in Lima, including Hillcrest Mansion. The tour also includes 2 buildings on the campus of Elim Bible Institute & College; St. Rose Catholic Church; Lima Town Hall, Tennie Burton Museum, and finally, Lima Presbyterian Church where a complimentary English Tea will be served from 12-4. Included at the tea is a live performance on the church's recently restored historic organ and a harpist performance. A couple of homes will include live performances of guitar and piano for your further enjoyment.

The Big Springs Museum is hosting a 2nd Annual Take-Out Chicken BBQ Dinner on Sunday, February 26th, Pick up your dinners between 11:30-1:30 (or until sold out), at 3095 Main Street, Caledonia (please use our Pioneer Street Entrance).

Dinner includes 1/2 BBQ chicken, buttered salt potatoes, cole slaw, roll, dessert.

ADVANCE sale tickets are $10, $11 at door if still available.

Limited advance sale tickets can be purchased at Caledonia's Bank of Castile, the Town of Caledonia Office, the Big Springs Museum, or from any Board Member. Get your tickets quick before they're all sold out, we thank you for your support.

Please note NEW day and location – Gordon Pierce from the Steuben County Historical Society will speak on his recently published 366 Days in the Life of a Young Woman, Daisy’s Diary - 1908, Transcription with Commentary - the diary of Daisy Wetmore Conrad. Daisy grew up on her family’s farm in Springwater and moved to Wayland after her marriage to Henry Conrad. She was well known for her hooked rugs. When she died in 1987 at the age of 105, she was recognized as Steuben County’s oldest resident.

The Barn-building Legacy of J.T. Wells & Sons

The Big Springs Museum presents a very interesting program on western NY's Wells barns, to be presented by Dick Thomas (Photographer), Barb Chapman (Wheatland Town Historian), and Katie Andres (Wells Barns Enthusiast) on Sunday, October 16th, 2016 at 2pm. Did you know that John T. Wells and his sons constructed over 200 barns spread across western NY, but less than 50 still remain? The magnificent trusses inside a Wells barn reminds one of being inside a cathedral. We hope you can join us for this program at 3095 Main Street, Caledonia.

Livingston Arts proudly announces that Miché Fambro, international guitarist and vocalist, will headline their Speakeasy Gala.

Attendees are encouraged to dress as flappers, gangsters, movie stars or other famous characters from the 1920's and 1930's. The event will feature hors d’oeuvres, dancing, signature cocktails and a silent auction. Both members and non-members are welcome to attend.

Talk: "The Burned Over District: Spirituality in the Genesee Valley" by Peter Wisbey, Curatorr, Genesee Country Village and Museum

During the early 19th century, western New Yorkers were gripped by waves of religious revivalism as part of the Second Great Awakening. New groups, established churches, and utopian experiments all vied for converts. Mr. Wisbey’s talk will examine these various groups – Shakers, Millerites, Mormons, Spiritualists and Evangelicals and the impact that they had on social change in our region.

Drop by on a Sunday for a free tour of the old Opera Hall on the third floor of the Avon Opera Block building. The Town Offices and Avon Preservation and Historical Society (APHS) are now located on the lower stories the building, but the third floor has yet to be renovated. Excitement in the community about the possibilities for the lovely space is gaining momentum - come see it for yourself! Tour will be given by a member of the APHS.
